Hunter Steinmetz

Welcome to my Eportfolio!

My name is Hunter Steinmetz, and I am currently working toward a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology at Kent State University, focusing on database design and administration I have a strong passion for working with data systems, and the infrastructure that keeps them running efficiently.

Throughout my studies and hands-on experience, I’ve developed an aptitude for systems administration, such as managing servers, optimizing performance, and ensuring reliable, secure environments where data and applications can thrive. I enjoy troubleshooting complex technical challenges and take pride in designing solutions that make systems both powerful and user-friendly.

Professional Goals

My goals with my IT degree aren’t set in stone yet, but I have a strong sense of the direction I want to pursue. I plan on graduating from Kent State at the end of next semester and then securing an entry-level IT job to continue developing my technical competencies. I am hoping to land a role that allows me to build my system administration skills, strengthen my understanding of IT infrastructure, and put my database engineering experience into practice. As I gain more hands-on experience, I hope to refine my long-term career path and identify the areas of IT where I can make the greatest impact.

Artifacts

Below, I have highlighted several artifacts that showcase mt technical abilities, hands-on learning, and growing experience in systems administration and database work. More detailed information can be found on the included links to their dedicated pages.

1. Proxmox Environment
2. MySQL Database
3. My First Website
  • Proxmox is my hypervisor of choice for my homelab environment, where I actively teach myself networking, server management, virtualization, and data handling. I use this setup to practice configuring virtual machines, managing storage, and troubleshooting mock infrastructure challenges, skills that all will directly support my goals in system administration. Included on the dedicated artifact page will be a video showing how to properly create and configure a Windows-11 VM in Proxmox as a example of my skills.

  • This artifact is my first MySQL database server I built and utilized for one of my previous classes. It marks a important milestone in my learning journey toward database design and administration. Through this project I learned about schema creation, table design, and query handling, giving me foundational experience in managing relational data.

  • This artifact shows the first website I ever built from scratch using HTML, CSS, and a little JavaScript. While it is simple compared to professional-level sites, it demonstrates my early work in web development and my ability to learn markup and scripting languages independently.
